Motor Private Insurance

Whether you drive to work, run the school trip or travel upcountry, motor private cover keeps you legal and protected. We compare third party and comprehensive options from our partner insurers and explain the difference in plain words before you buy.

What it covers

Third Party Only (TPO)

The legal minimum in Kenya. Pays for injuries and damage you cause to other people, their cars and property. It does not pay for repairs to your own car.

Third Party, Fire and Theft

Everything in TPO, plus your car is covered if it is stolen or damaged by fire.

Comprehensive

The widest cover. Third party liabilities plus your own car for accident damage, theft, fire and more, up to the insured value. Best for newer or financed vehicles.

Who needs it

  • Private car and SUV owners
  • Family vehicles used for personal, non-business driving
  • Anyone whose current certificate is about to expire

What you need to apply

  • Copy of the vehicle logbook
  • KRA PIN
  • National ID or passport
  • Vehicle valuation report (for comprehensive — we can help arrange one)
  • Copy of previous policy or certificate (for renewals)

Send documents on WhatsApp and we will confirm the exact list your insurer needs before you commit.

Common exclusions — the honest part

Exclusions differ by insurer, but commonly include: driving without a valid licence, driving under the influence, using the car for hire or PSV work on a private policy, and normal wear and tear. We walk you through the exclusions on your specific quote before you pay.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between third party and comprehensive?

Third party pays for damage and injuries you cause to others — it is the legal minimum. Comprehensive covers third party plus your own car for accident damage, theft and fire. If your car is financed or fairly new, comprehensive is usually the safer choice.

How fast can I get my certificate?

Once your documents are complete and the insurer confirms payment, certificates are normally issued the same day. We follow up the insurer for you.

What is an excess?

The excess is the amount you pay yourself when you make a claim — the insurer pays the rest. A higher excess usually means a lower premium. We tell you the excess before you buy, not after.

Can I move my cover from another insurer?

Yes. Send us your current certificate and logbook and we will compare options at renewal, including any no-claim discount you have earned.
